Recommendations for Children's Birthday Parties on Kiawah Island

I have had the pleasure of attending a Kindergarten Birthday Party at the Kiawah Island Nature Center and Oh what fun I had. I do believe that I enjoyed the party as much as my 6 year old. The children were aloud to walk around and view the animals. A very bright young man gave the kids facinating information about each animal. Then, the children went into a back room and wonderful snakes and other creatures were brought out for viewing and an occasional picture with the snake moment. The children then went for cake and goodies. The Nature Center at Kiawah Island turly mixes fun with education especially for a fun filled birthday for the little ones.
Also just for fun Night Heron Park is a great place for an old fashion kids gone crazy Birthday Party. There is a great playground and plenty of space to play a favorite game. Order pizzas from Newton Farms and hand the Pinata over a grand oak tree and have a ball. The picnic area is perfect for pizza and birthday cake. Bring your favorite lawn games and have a ball all for free! Just give security a call and let them know about the party and they will handle the rest.
My third recommendation is hiring the wonderful girl that sells the hula hoops at Night Heron Park for various events. I'm sorry I don't remmember her name but she did a great job at another Birthday Party we had the pleasure of attending. She helped the party girls design their own hula hoop and then the hula hooping began. What fun watching all the guests including some parents trying to hula hoop. I laughed so hard tears came to my eyes. Fun Fun Fun!
Three different Birthday Parties for children on Kiawah Island at three very different price points, but all were a blast!

Freshfield's Village Farmer's Market Is Ripe for Visiting

Another summer is upon us and it’s about time. I was getting downright restless waiting on my favorite season of the year to roll around. After a beautiful, but mild spring, the sun is out in full force and is making its presence known here on Seabrook Island.
I’m not the only one who’s noticed either. Families are riding bikes and hanging out at the pool together, friends are kayaking on area creeks and I’ve even spotted a few lifelong buddies enjoying a friendly game of golf (or two.)
But if you want to be where all the action is, find everyone (and their dogs) enjoying the season’s best produce at the Freshfields Village Farmer’s Market.
Each Monday from 4-8 p.m. through August 29, local farmers, artists and food vendors set up shop under big white tents on the square and sell the freshest and the best seasonal fruits and veggies.
Trust me, you haven’t lived until you’ve had a Johns Island tomato fresh off the vine. In fact, you’ll wonder why anything else has the audacity to call itself a tomato after you bite into one of these fresh, juicy summertime treats.
Cut them up, add them up to a well-oiled, searing hot pot, toss in some diced onions (maybe a touch of jalapeno peppers or a bit of Tabasco sauce for a kick) sauté for about five minutes, add a touch of kosher salt then simmer with a couple of cups of water for about 10 minutes and you’ve got yourself a delicious, Southern staple. I mean you don’t know good food until you’ve eaten this dish served over rice.
Not in the mood to cook. That’s fine. You can also get prepared foods like tacos or kettle corn to snack on. And don’t be surprised if you see someone with a Seabrook Exclusives shirt lingering a bit longer than normal at the Charleston Spice Company’s tent. I found some lavender flowers and some lavender sugar I just can’t wait to add to my ice cold tea!!!
There’s plenty to eat, see and do at the Freshfields Village Farmer’s Market. Bring some friends and bring your pets, it’s the social event everyone craves during the summer.

Locksmith Recommendations for Kiawah and Seabrook Island
To contact us Click HERE
There is always a need for a locksmith on the island. Here are a few recommendations for Locksmith that have been used by the residents.
"I was able to call Island Lock and Key and was able to resolve the problem yesterday. Steve Jantzen, the owner, was great." 843-478-2874. www.islandlock.com
It should be noted that Thompson Lock & Key received a few recommendations but it seems that they are no longer in business. The previous phone number was out of service.
"Lenny's Kiawah Services came to my rescue when I locked my keys in my car on one of the HOT HOT HOT days. He was there quickly and it was very reasonable" 843-768-0055. www.kiawahservices.com .

Insurance Coverage Kiawah Home

When you purchase your home on Kiawah Island or Seabrook Island, everything is beautiful and sunny. Your excitement is soon dampened a bit when you start to sort through insurance for your home. Your trusted State Farm or Allstate agent wants nothing to do with your new home on the islands. Hopefully, this will help sort through the crazy world of insuring your new island home. Congratulations and welcome to heaven.
"We use Taylor's. We switched from Anderson to save a bundle."
"A pleasant experience will be hard to find get ready to open your wallet. We use Anderson Insurance who writes our Home Owners through Travelers."
"For any of you who are eligible, USAA has the lowest rates on almost all forms of insurance in SC Check the SC gov web site for comparisons. They are reliable, friendly, helpful, & send dividends in the good years. You must have had military stint, but I am not certain that it must be as an officer. If you have a parent who is a USAA member you can apply too, regardless of your ex military status. For excess insurance try Pinckney-Carter (529-3386)"
"Farm Bureau Insurance worked for us. Mel Clark, agent, was good to help us out. 843-766-3794. [melclark@scfbins.com]"
"We have a FABULOUS agent! (Wind & Hail) His name is Cameron McCutcheon w/ Hood &Hargett. . The best # to reach him is his cell: 704.608.8178. He lives in Charleston."
" I have all my insurance with USAA, but they no longer write Wind/Hail coverage. They told me that commercial coverage would be substantially less expensive than the SC Wind Pool."
"Check with Kimberly Cooper at CT Lowndes, tel. 875-2300. She and Walter Cuthbert have been providing us good service and alternatives for the past several years."(Wind & Hail).
"I also have my insurance with Henry Lowndes (843) 763-0120. They are have many options and always work to find the best coverage for the right price. Always great service."
"I use AIG which provides a package including wind/hail at lower cost than SC insurance pool. They allowed me to keep my USAA car insurance which is the best! Call-G Stelling @ 881-2229 if interested."
"call Seth Collins at Chartis 843-425-3474"
"Cameron McCutcheon with Hood Hargett and Associates
1 N Adgers Wharf
Charleston, SC 29401
Ph: (704) 608.8178
Fax: (704) 376.0184www.hoodhargett.com"
"We use Gerard Stelling at McKay, Stelling & Associates in Mt. Pleasant 881-2229. Gerard knows all the best coastal insurance carriers and works hard to get the best rates available. Tyler Bewley at C.T. Lowndes & Co. is also working hard for clients. Wind and hail insurance is the largest cost we have in owning a home on Kiawah Island."
"We use a wonderful guy. Cameron McCutcheon who lives in Charleston. His # is 704.608.8178 . We changed all of our insurance to him and he really saved us alot for the same coverages."
"We use Aydlette Insurance Agency 843-795-8111 and Archadian Risk Managers 843-4492491. You can check out their rates." This was for more interior insurance.
"AIG just got me great insurance rates, much better than current USAA!"
"John Brinson Agency has best rates in Chas. 762-2086."
"I have ours with Hartford, AARP. I found them competitive."
"You will have to get a new hazard policy that excludes wind, storm and rain. Don't even waste your time trying to find a hazard policy that includes wind, storm. The last quote I receive was over $7,000. Therefore, you will also need a second policy issued from the state wind pool. This, of course, is in addition to the flood policy from the feds. Nationwide (Pam Nunley Agency) writes my beach hazard insurance and I believe they are writing new hazard policies on the beach.
Either can also write the wind pool coverage. So the trick is:
1.. Find a carrier (Allstate, Nationwide, Lloyds etc) that will write the hazard;
2.. The same agent should be able to write the state Wind Pool policy;
3.. Transfer your Flood to the same agent when it comes up for renewal so it's all with the same agent. This particular policy takes 15 days to go into effect so you do not want to wait until the last minute."

Porch Rocker recommendations

When the ocean breeze blows and the gentle sound of the palm trees are in the air, the is only one thing to do.....get outside and enjoy it. One of the best ways is to sit on a porch rocker and enjoy the night in paradise. Here are some recommendations for porch rockers for that perfect night.
"About ten years ago I saw some great rockers displayed in front of a Cracker Barrel restaurant. I loaded a couple in the car and have received great use from them. They are real rockers, the kind your grandmother had! They come in a variety of colors, are durable, and you will not find a
cheaper price. I think they are around $100." Just an FYI, there is a new Cracker Barrel restaurant being built in Mt. Pleasant.
"Al Riley and Morris Sokol have always done a great job for us..."
"I purchased 2 a year ago and am delighted with the quality and chosen color (Charleston Green) from Morris Sokol furniture store in Charleston."

Lawn and Tree Service Recommendations for Kiawah Island

If you don't live on Kiawah Island full time, you may just come to visit during the summer and say "What the heck happened to my yard" Hiring a reasonable, qualified, reliable company to take care of a lawn that you may not see for many months can be daunting. But fear no more, here are the Lawn Service Recommendations given by the homeowners on Kiawah Island.
"We switched to Polo Velasquez almost exactly a year ago. We have been very happy with the results. When we came back in Sept. we were shocked at how good the lawn looked. Polo has been around for years. We feel his rates are fair as is the charges for extras we have had done, like
some african iris on the right side in the front. His contact number is 843-303-3730. Good luck" Note for the reader, Polo received many accelades for his wonderful service and that is why I am placing him in the first position on this post! "Cell 843 303-3730.Office 843 559-1570"
"We have Steve Hewett do our lawn work. He is also very good at taking care of the sprinkling system. His phone is 559-9724. Steve is aretired fireman."
"We use Twin Oaks. Marisio is very knowledgeable about plants, and assists us with our watering system. He can be reached at 514-2505."
"Al Landscape Solutions, Travis Ellis, 843 297 1304, does a nice job for us."
"Mario Vasquez 303-5307. Wonderful work ethic. .. "I don't do good work because someone is
watching, I do it because I want to be proud of what I do." "Mario Vasquez is the first landscaper (of many, many, many) that we can enthusiastically recommend. As part timers, previous landscapers took advantage of our absence and did little or nothing. Now, after so many years of poor service, we take great delight in arriving unannounced and finding the hedges clipped, the lawns tidy and the garden beds edged."
"I use Walter Gordon, 843-607-7444. He handles all our weekly maintenance and special projects and is very reliable. He lives just off the island which has been very handy as we are very part time residents and has been with us for 5 years."
"We use Green Jeans and think them wonderful"
"Perennial Landscapes - 343-7304"
"We had Cruz put in planting and take out our lawn and a year later despite weekly fees, they neglected to address the non functioning watering system (we paid to make sure it was OK, but it never came on in the spring and they never told us or the rental agency)."
"We just started using Sebastian's Lawn & Landscape. Sebastian used to work for Sunnyside. He is doing a great job and his prices are reasonable. He also got rid of the MOLES (a problem no one has solved for me). Tell him I recommended you. Sebastian's Phone; 843 437-6597"
"We have been quite pleased with Jim and Son 795-0036."
"We have been very happy with Supergreen. They finished what our other landscaper did not and they are anxious to please." "David Kalfa, Supergreen Work: 843 559 1486
Mobile: (he never answers BUT...will return your call) 843 906 3820
Pager: 843 973 5787

Also I am including Tree Service companies recommendations in this post.
"I have had great success with Brian Millimum of Arbor Care."
"We have used Brian at Arborcare a number of times - to cut down a large pine tree very close to our home and to do some annual trimming. He has always been reliable and leaves the area as neat as is possible. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about the Aguayo service - we did have a few issues with them that Brian ended up fixing for us." "I agree and he is also very good at getting permission from the ARB for the tree cutting as well." Brian received many many recommendations for his services.
"I have used Cruz tree service and been very satisfied. I might add that Cruz trimmed the trees on Turtle Point golf course."
"Rawson trees is a great co Randy Rawson very knowledgeable."

Gas Prices on the way to Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island
To contact us Click HERE
Well the good news is that as of today, South Carolina has the lowest gas prices around. In this post, I am adding a link to the best gas prices. Just type in the areas that you will be traveling through and you can find the cheapest gas prices thanks to Map Quest. As you get closer to Kiawah and Seabrook Island, it looks like the cheapest is the Hess Station as soon as you get off of I-526 on Savanah Highway.
Freshfield's Village Farmer's Market Is Ripe for Visiting
To contact us Click HERE
Another summer is upon us and it’s about time.

Recommendations for Children's Birthday Parties on Kiawah Island
To contact us Click HERE
I have had the pleasure of attending a Kindergarten Birthday Party at the Kiawah Island Nature Center and Oh what fun I had.

Pizza recommendations for Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island

A week doesn't go by that my children don't request Pizza for dinner. An for a long time it was impossible to have a pizza delivered to our home on Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island. After a long day at the beach or pool sometimes a pizza hits the spot for everyone, especially the chef. Here are the pizza recommendations for Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island. There is one company that delivers pizza to Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island and it is Danny Boy's Pizza.

"These are the same people who for several years owned DB's on Folly Road near Mondo's. If I recall correctly, they won Best Cheesesteak from The City Paper. The owners are from the Philadelphia/Delaware area where they had several shops. I believe they still ship in their hoagie rolls from Amorosos in Philadelphia, a famous bakery. I have had many long conversations with Danny over the years about all kinds of restaurants and suppliers that we both know, and I can tell you that he takes food very seriously. Although this is clearly not a gourmet restaurant, this is good, tasty food with quality ingredients. Aside from the cheesesteaks and pizza, give the meatball sub a try."
"We ordered pizza from them. It was good pizza, the delivery was prompt, and the price reasonable."
"Danny Boy's delivers on the island. FREE. That is a great service!!"
Other suggestions that are also good. You can order pizza from Newton Farms and pick up a hot and ready to eat pizza.
"La Tela Pizzeria is also an excellent choice for pizza and many other delights. It doesn't deliver but the food is good and so is the wine." 768-1951 or view the menu at the website http://latelapizzeria.com/.
